  • We conducted experiments to measure denitrification and DNRA using a push-pull incubation method in the urban Salt River Accidental Wetlands in Phoenix, Arizona, USA in June, 2016. We use isotopically labelled nitrate to raised the concentration of nitrate in field water, pushed this water into small wells in the submerged wetland soil, then pulled samples from the wells after a 30 minute incubation period. We added bromide as a hydrologic tracer. We measured the initial and final samples for nitrate, ammonium, and bromide concentration; dissolved N2 isotopes concentration; and 15N ammonium concentration. We measured initial samples only for dissovled organic carbon.
