Abstract:

This data set contains half-hourly micrometeorological data from six weather stations located distributed across Etosha Heights Private Reserve in northern Namibia. Data collection began at the end of May 2023, and if ongoing. The data are part of a project funded by Colgate University in collaboration with Giraffe Conservation Foundation and the Namibia University of Science and Technology aimed at better understanding animal movement. That data are being coupled with gps data from a variety of animals within the reserve and adjacent Etosha National Park.

Methods and protocols used in the collection of this data package

Description:

Data are collected using ATMOS41 all in one weather sensor connected to a ZL-6 data logger, both manufactured by Meter Group. The sensors are mount opportunistically on features ranging in height from 2-4m. Mounting locations were chosen to capture an east-to-west precipitation gradient across the reserve, and also to be in areas that would minimize disturbance from elephants and other large animals. Mountain locations included fence posts, existing tower structures, and trees. In all cases sensors were mounted in areas where radiation and precipitation measurements would not be influenced by surrounding vegetation or other structures.
