Abstract:	Data package contains sets of photographs taken at 77 forest monitoring plots across Sagehen Creek Field Station. These plots are a subset of 500 forest monitoring plots established in 2004 and 2005 for the purpose of determining strategically-placed area treatments (SPLATS) that impede forest fire progression (Valliant 2008, Doctoral Dissertation). Sites were photographed at various intervals before and after prescribed forestry treatments. Two major types of treatment occurred and additional activity is ongoing. In Summer/Fall 2016, hand thinning and mastication was performed on a subset of plots, and in Summer/Fall 2018, logging was performed on another subset of plots. Some plots received both sets of treatments, some received one, and others received none. Information about photo dates and treatment status can be found in the plot information csv file. This monitoring is ongoing through the Forest Service Monitoring Project.

Methods and protocols used in the collection of this data package

Description:

Photographs were taken at each of 77 forest monitoring plots at Sagehen Creek Field Station. Each numbered folder corresponds to a monitoring plot and contains all photographs taken at that location. This comprises multiple visits to document forestry activities. Each row of the csv file corresponds to each of these visits and represents a set of eight photographs taken at a constant point within each plot. Every file name within the photograph package describes the plot, cardinal direction (North = 1, NE = 2, E = 3,..., SW = 8), and date (YYYY-MM-DD). For example, 31_1_2018_09_27.jpg indicates that the image is located in plot 21, faces North, and was taken on September 27th, 2018.
