Tree band growth data taken at BCEF sites (1989 -Present)

General Information
Data Package:
Local Identifier:knb-lter-bnz.194.27
Title:Tree band growth data taken at BCEF sites (1989 -Present)
Alternate Identifier:DOI PLACE HOLDER
Abstract:

This file contains the yearly diameter of select trees within each of the forested LTER control plots. Diameter is calculated from adding the diameter increment based on circumference growth taken from dendrometer bands read each fall.

Methods and Protocols

These methods, instrumentation and/or protocols apply to all data in this dataset:

Methods and protocols used in the collection of this data package
Description:

Experimental Design

Each fall dendrometer bands are read to accurately describe yearly growth of approximately ten individuals representative of each tree species within the LTER control plots. These measurements are used to calculate diameter growth of each tree.

Methods

Each fall dendrometer bands are read to accurately describe yearly growth of approximately ten individuals representative of each tree species within the LTER control plots. These measurements are used to calculate diamter growth of each tree. A second band is placed on trees several years before the old band is outgrown to allow the new band time to fit snugly to the tree before accurate measurements are possible. A manual measurement using a diameter tape is also taken at the time of the band reading and stored with the raw data.

Description:

corrections

All data was corrected in 2009 using manually measured diameters to compensate for the time required for the trees to grow to a snug fit with the band following establishment. 2010 to present growth is calculated based on the 2009 diameters.
