Experimental Design

Soil description cores were taken at the rich fen and sedge/forb fen along the Alaskan Peatland Experiment wetland gradient.

Methods

FIELD: Soil description data were collected from cores used for root biomass data. LAB: Soil descriptions were done in the lab using the USGS organic soil protocol. A general description of the soil was noted as well as the soil horizon with depth, root abundance, and von post degree of humification.

Three soil cores were collected from within each CO2 ecosystem respiration collar at the rich fen and sedge/forb fen after the root respiration experiment.
