Abstract:

These data provide meteorological information measured at the GUMP research station on the north shore of Moorea island, French Polynesia. Data collection began in August, 2006 and include air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, atmospheric pressure, and integrated rainfall. All sensors are sampled every 5 minutes. Post processing of these data is limited to some unit conversion and exclusion of corrupted data records. Aggregate data are provided in daily, weekly, monthly and yearly time bins.

ClimDB data for station GUMPM were derived from the same data source.

This material is based upon work supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation under Grant No. OCE 16-37396 (and earlier awards) as well as a generous gift from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Research was completed under permits issued by the French Polynesian Government (Délégation à la Recherche) and the Haut-commissariat de la République en Polynésie Francaise (DTRT) (Protocole d'Accueil 2005-2022). The meteorologic station is at Richard B. Gump South Pacific Research Station. The instruments are 6 m above mean sea level except the anemometer at 8.3 m. Weather station is atop a small building. No surrounding buildings significantly obscure the sky. Some palm trees are within 100 m. The building is within 100 m of the shore. This is station GUMPM in ClimDB.

This is an ongoing dataset containing snapshots of a real-time data stream recorded every 5 minutes. Archive updated aproximately monthly.

The air pressure was written in mmHg until 2006-10-16 21:15:00 (inclusive). It was converted to mbar with the constant 1 mmHg = 0.7524 mbar, which is the constant at 60 degree F, suggested by Chris Gotschalk.

Solar radiance units were corrected on 2010-10-20.

The datetimes from September 2008 thru 2010 had been in Pacific Time. As of revision 22 on 2011-03-16 all datetimes are in UTC.

2008-01-03 thru 2008-02-03, inclusive, had interpolated data instead of missing-value codes. Fixed on 2011-04-20.

2010-10-20 thru 2011-06 (estimate): meteorologic station offline for repair.

Revision 43. Late 2018 thru early 2019: PAR sensor not pointed up. Data has been noted as missing.

Revision 45. Usual timeseries update. End date coincides with last upload to historic ClimDB.

Revision 46. Usual timeseries update. 2022-01-10 (estimate): GUMP meteorologic station offline due to damage from a storm.

Revision 47. Usual timeseries update. 2022-02-06 to 2022-02-25 (estimate): GUMP meteorologic station offline for repairs.
