  • Black Rock Forest maintains the Open Lowland real-time weather station at 129 Continental Rd, Cornwall, NY. The system was designed to measure air temperature (average, maximum, minimum), relative humidity (average, maximum, minimum), average vapor pressure, dew point temperature, photosynthetically active solar radiation, net global solar radiation, mean horizontal wind speed, mean wind direction, standard deviation of wind direction, maximum wind speed, precipitation amount, barometric pressure (average, maximum, minimum), and average soil temperature at two depths. Other sensors are used to measure snow depth, CO2 concentration, and albedo.

Data are collected from the Open Lowland Station using a CR1000. Most instruments have a sample interval of 1 minute. The program records averages, minimum or maximum of those 1-minute readings every hour. Rainfall is totals for the 1 hour period.
